Technical Whiz
Chris Daft is a middle-aged geek living in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. He is married to a wildly talented painter and currently manages a small development group at an enormous company. His interests include revolutionizing medical imaging, becoming a decent pianist, and acquiring Japanese literacy.
Kanji preoccupy him because they are beautiful and encode aspects of Asian culture that continually amaze him. He feels that Joy o' Kanji's unique and courageous approach is wonderful because Westerners need multiple ways of conquering kanji, and it complements other methods perfectly. To that end, Chris is experimenting with making mind maps of kanji as yet another way to learn these amazing characters.
His favorite kanji are 菅野 (かんの: sedge + field) because the music of the composer and musician 菅野よう子 (かんの ようこ) has lit up his life for more years than he can remember.
