For a number of years, Corey Linstrom has been teaching English in Japan and living like a workaholic. After acquiring just enough Japanese to get by, he stopped studying and immersed himself in work. Eventually, it dawned on him that far too much time was passing without any progress in his Japanese. The osmosis method obviously was not fruitful. He counts himself lucky to have found Eve's Kanji Curiosity blog and now her Joy o' Kanji. The title is quite fitting, he feels, because her joy fuels his desire to study once again. His favorite kanji compound is 改善 (かいぜん). The noun form means "a change for the better." If you add する, you produce the verb "to make a thing better." Corey explains, "I hope to make my life and all that it touches better in some way. I think it's really cool that the Japanese language has one word that embraces this concept."
